Mozilla extensions.. API docs? Anywhere?

I have a couple ideas for some Mozilla extensions that I'd like to write. Notably Wikipedia and IMDb search extensions.

However, it beats the fuck out of me if I can find any documentation on how to write extensions or even on the extensions API.

Am I just missing something super obvious?
