Douchebag tech support at Comcast

| | Comments (1)

Read on for the transcript of a lovely chat I had with a Comcast customer service representative.

So, let me get this straight. My account that I have never used that was probably set up improperly anyway since an inept CS rep set up my account to begin with, was hacked. Hacked by somebody who bothered to completely set up a bunch of e-mail addresses, and web space. In addition, this person went so far as to change all of their personal information including their address and phone number.

Yeah. Sure.

Besides, all us Meltzers are related anyway.

What an ass goblin.

Robert > Thank you for contacting Comcast. My name is Robert. How may I assist you?
theficus > Hello, I need the password reset for my account please.
theficus > The account name is "theficus"
Robert > I can assist you with this. With whom am I speaking with?
theficus > This is Adam Meltzer
theficus > Also, could you please verify that this is the primary account name?
Robert > theficus is currently disabled. You have another primary, the reason theficus is disabled is because it was a primary and you can only have 1 primary on the account.
theficus > What is my primary account?
Robert > What are the last 4 digits of the social?
theficus > XXXX
Robert > Primary username is: gmetzer
theficus > Erm.
theficus > That's a mistake.
theficus > In fact, I discussed this with a rep earlier, that's somebody else's account, not mine.
theficus > That's why I'm trying to get this all squared away.
Robert > The email account is tied to your address.
Robert > XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Robert > First Name: GERALD Last Name: MELTZER
theficus > That's not me.
Robert > Same last name as you.
theficus > That address is right
theficus > but I am not, nor do I know any Gerald Meltzer
theficus > My address is XXXXXXXXXXXXX; Redmond, WA 98052
Robert > That is the address on the email account.
Robert > Phone Number: XXXXXXXX Same phone number as yours.
theficus > In fact, I logged on with this account, and it showed an address in Littleton, CO
Robert > No it does not.
Robert > City: REDMOND State: WA
theficus > I think somebody in the past merged our two accounts improperly
Robert > Zip Code: 980523576
Robert > Account Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Robert > Your account number.
theficus > This is for 'gmetzer'?
Robert > Yes.
Robert > The account number corelated directly to the actual account.
theficus > Hold on one second, please.
theficus > I just logged in to that gmetzer account in another window
theficus > it shows "Gerald Meltzer; 10108 Longview Dr; Littleton, CO 80124; 3037991018
Robert > Where does it show this?
theficus > I do not know who this is nor have I ever used this as a name.
theficus > www.comcast.net, logging in
theficus > service center -> account management
Robert > When you log into www.comcast.net.
Robert > I am looking directly into the system.
Robert > It is tied to YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER.
Robert > XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
theficus > How can I change my primary username? I do not know this Gerald Meltzer
Robert > XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Robert > ADAM
Robert > MELTZER
Robert > XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
theficus > nor do I want this username associated with this account
Robert > You can change the username in account management by select change username.
theficus > Do you know how this became my primary username? I have never used it ever. Nor would I use a name that contains a misspelled version of my last name.
theficus > i'm lookign at this account, and these subaccounts are names I've never heard of
Robert > No I do not, I show it is tied directly to your account. All the account information matches to your account.
theficus > Weird. Well something's messed up with your www.comcast.net's system, then.
theficus > since it looks like my account is crossed with somebody elses
theficus > regardless of everything being "correct" in your system
Robert > It isn't.
Robert > I have many more tools on my end and they all show that they are your logins.
Robert > That they are tied to your account.
Robert > You also can change the personal information when you sign in with that account.
Robert > What you are seeing can be changed easily.
theficus > I'll do that. I'm concerned why it's all broken on the web site
theficus > I understand that.
Robert > What I am seeing, cannot be as it is tied to the account.
Robert > You are looking at the personal informaiton that any user can change if they know the username and password.
theficus > So, somebody hacked into my account and messed up my information?
Robert > It certainly is possible.
theficus > Ok, well thanks for your help. I'll go ahead and fix my account info now.
Robert > Thank you for contacting Comcast. Have a good evening.
Robert > Analyst has closed chat and left the room
