DDRFREAK AFD 2K4 :: YGS
It was quite the interesting experiment.
I was going to write a whole big spiel, but Phrekwenci has covered in depth..
So, just a few notes and observations from my end. First, if we could do it all over again, I'd certainly filter things like Tubgirl and Goatse and disable deleting of posts. Some real comedy gold was lost in the ensuing clusterfuck that occurred.
It's kind of a sad statement of just how immature and retarded some of the user base is. Of course, there's no real shock there, but still..
Overall, it was amazing if for no other reason it started as a mass effort amongst the staff of the board. Remy had the idea of making everybody mods, there has been the idea floating around for years now about some sort of coup d'etat, and everything else was pretty much improvised and made up from there. We spent like 3 weeks just planning everything. Starting drama here and there, becoming more out of control, taking sides. Combine that with taking time to create and run with the "moderator's" group that would be made visible to everybody on April 1. It all carried out brilliantly. Before April Fool's Day, some people had figured out by that time that all the drama was fake, but nobody knew where it was going -- or as Remy put it, they know the joke, but not the punchline.
Once the "punchline" was out there, lots of people ran with it, and despite the efforts of some fucktards to ruin everything, it overall was a blast. For once we had the whole community getting togther doing all kinds of wacky shit, and it was great. We had people coming on the boards who had left years ago to join in on the fun. It was really quite cool. I almost wish we could make it some kind of annual occurrence, like an annual DDR Freak Anarchy Day, except maybe a tad more restricted.
Anyway, without further adieu, let's see some of my personal highlights with my pick of the most outrageous PMs that I received yesterday..
The names have been obfuscated to protect the innocent(?).. if you really care who sent these, you can figure out how to un-obfuscate them. :)

One of the threads in there "Moderator Contact Info" has personal info that I don't think you want everyone looking at, especially on this day.
I love this. Remy said it best in IRC with his comment about how people are all OMG HAHA APRIL FOOLS and then assume that our fake mods group is real, like we didn't mean for users to read it.

Why are people allowed to edit my posts? What I have written, which is legitimate information for DDR players, has been replaced with offensive pornographic material. I hope this is an April Fools joke. I have spent a good deal of time this morning making sure my name (a reputable business for FAMILIES) isn't associated with porn.

I don't know if anyone has brought this to your attation, but there has been a lot of posts dissapearing and being edited to say "Team s00r rox!" or someone sucks... my guess this experament with haveing everyone as a modarator has failed (IMO).. There has been well over 3000 strings deleated from my last count. so if you can please look into this....

PS I have deleated a post or 2 based on what they have said which I felt were inapropatet(sp) for the age base that can access this site,
I was a moderator for a chat site before with it's own forms. that sight no longer exists today though. but it was a rated pg13 and held onto that rated standards.. (thought you might want to know.)
If this guy wasn't so polite, I'd just pass this off as another moron. I found it amusing.

I greatly appreciate the power to edit, delete, move and lock threads. However, this could lead to what Phreak said as the "downfall of ddrfreak" I trust that you have a plan, and will not let this thing go too far. But, please make sure that you have complete control over this. I love these forums, but I just don't think that everyone should have the right to edit and delete any posts he or she chooses. As you have probably noticed, the DDR Chit-Chat board has 0 posts on it (or atleast it does currently)

Yup, he doesn't realize Phreak(sic)'s whole banning drama was fake, and this is going to ruin the site! So sayeth the guy with a link to an online petition to get Konami to bring more DDR to the US. Once again, if he wasn't so polite about it, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as amusing.
If you really want to see flying off the handle, check this out.. This was posted in reply to the Headline regarding the changeover.
With that said, you guys really screwed up. Threads are deleted and moved around and, unless there's some sort of back-up that you guys plan on restoring, that won't change. If you guys just plan on making everyone trick members again and NOT restoring the site to the way it was before you guys severely screwed the pooch, then it's going to take a very, VERY long time to clean this place up, and I CANNOT imagine anyone doing that.
Let's also take a look at the possible long-term effects of this stupid joke.
One. You guys have relatively close ties with Konami. Unless all this stupid crap is fixed, there's a chance those ties won't be as strong as before, especially since official threads that they post in (the DDR Extreme USA thread) has gone the way of the dinosaur.
Two. You probably just lost a decent amount of loyal members today. April Fool's joke or not, seeing a year and a half of history in the Iowa thread ALONE go up in smoke because of some half-wit in California just really, REALLY pissed me off. And even if you DO restore at the end of the night, things were being planned and talked about in there that were going on tomorrow, which is kinda difficult to do now seeing as, oh, I dunno, the WHOLE FUCKING THREAD IS GONE!
Three. There's a large difference between a funny and harmless joke or prank and something like this, which is neither funny nor harmless. If you can't see that, you lost touch with what's really here.
Four. Yeah, it's just text. Yeah, it's just a forum. But it's communication, and it's communication that probably wouldn't happen if it WEREN'T for those threads...ya know, the ones that just got deleted because of some crap-minded 13-year old 1337 little bastard and his shiny new green foot. It's like an April Fool's Joke by the phone company, letting anyone tap in on your calls so that they can yell moronic things like "YOU LIKE DONKEY PENIS!" every ten seconds while you're talking to your sister on the phone.
If someone wants to edit my post, fine. If they want to delete it, fine. If they wanna chime in afterward and say, "THNEQVNA LIKES T3H PEN0R!!1", be my guest. Come tomorrow, though, there better be a restored forum or a long, sincere fucking apology from the staff that forgot how to pull off a proper April Fool's joke.

Of all the complaints we had, this one was just amazingly funny. First of all, we have this guy taking everything way seriously. The funniest thing though is the mention of "[our] close ties with Konami." Excuse me for a moment.
